Eros and Pluto Vet Shampa Banerjee Named Chief Product and Technology Officer at Hispanic-Focused Canela Media – Deadline
Shampa Banerjee, a seasoned streaming executive who has held senior roles at Eros International and Pluto, has been named chief product and technology officer at Canela Media.
Venture-backed Canela operates a portfolio of websites as well as free and ad-supported streaming services Canela TV and Canela Music.
Banerjee will report to Isabel Rafferty, Founder and CEO of Canela.
A physicist by training with an extensive background in technology, Banerjee will lead Canela’s innovation lab in addition to her executive roles. The lab was created to develop new revenue models for industrial sectors such as production and distribution.

In 2020, Banerjee joined ViacomCBS-owned Pluto as chief product officer, following his stint at Eros, which is best known in the US for its still-ongoing merger with STX.
Prior to working at Eros Digital, Banerjee helped prepare social enterprise collaboration platform Socialtext for a $1.4 billion sale and also served as CTO at Ziff Davis Media.
In addition to a master’s degree in physics from Case Western Reserve University and the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, Banerjee holds a doctorate in theoretical physics from Kent State University.
